The Stapleton | A Dublin Bar in Powerscourt Townhouse

Located within Powerscourt House on South William Street, The Stapleton is a welcoming Dublin bar shaped by its setting and the rhythm of the city around it. Named after Michael Stapleton, one of Ireland’s great Georgian craftsmen, the bar takes quiet inspiration from his attention to detail, without ever feeling formal, fixed, or overly reverential.

Built in the 1770s for Richard Wingfield, 3rd Viscount Powerscourt, the townhouse remains one of Dublin’s most distinctive Georgian buildings. Today, its high ceilings, original features, and sweeping staircases frame a bar that feels relaxed, social, and very much of the present.

The Stapleton is designed to be easy to enjoy. The main bar and mezzanine are walk-in, seven days a week — places to drop in for a drink, meet friends, or settle in as the evening unfolds. Upstairs, The Lounge offers a more composed experience, with reserved seating at select times, table service, and a focused cocktail menu, while still retaining the same easy, unpretentious atmosphere as the rest of the bar.

Conversation comes first throughout the venue, whether that’s over a cocktail, a glass of wine, or a properly poured pint of Guinness. The mood shifts naturally from relaxed afternoons into lively city-centre nights, without the sense that there’s a single “right” way to use the space.

Drinks are varied, considered, and approachable. Alongside classic and contemporary cocktails, The Stapleton offers quality spirits, good wine, and beer, all served with the same care and confidence. The emphasis is on drinking well across the board, without fuss or ceremony.

At its core, The Stapleton is a great Dublin bar, warm, inclusive, and designed for good company, good drinks, and coming back again.
